This is what we used to call a Jesus headline (as in the only reason to run a headline in this big of type is when Jesus reappears). Now compare it with the NOLA.com website.
Granted the web does plenty of things better than print, but the shovel-ware nature of newspaper websites means that great design falls by the templated wayside.
I’ve always been an advocate of newspaper websites having at least one “Jesus” template for the really, really big breaking news or sports story.
I doubt that anyone is calling Nola.com this morning asking for a reprint of today’s webpage. I bet my lunch that the phones are ringing off the hook at the Times-Picayune asking for reprints and posters. That’s called added revenue.
